I came to Korea with the March batch of new recruits. Which means the next round of EPIK teachers isn't until September, right? Strangely enough, no. A month after I got here there was an April batch who were still EPIK teachers but on slightly different terms.

In other words, be persistent, expect the unexpected, and keep a positive attitude.

Good luck.Jimmyhttp://strange-lands.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4806583390456631318.post-86974769155535016972010-06-17T13:29:31.000-07:002010-06-17T13:29:31.000-07:00Thanks for the comments, Brian. I'll look into Jeollanan-do should this current round not work out.Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10170714969815198344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4806583390456631318.post-10778383008828888982010-06-17T13:10:47.000-07:002010-06-17T13:10:47.000-07:00The waitlist is preferable to what used to go on: ...The waitlist is preferable to what used to go on: overhiring. Last fall the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education hired too many people, then fired 100 teachers just days before they were supposed to fly out. Making matters worse, instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, they blamed it on unreliable teachers.

http://briandeutsch.blogspot.com/2009/08/smoe-cuts-tons-of-native-speaker.html

http://briandeutsch.blogspot.com/2009/09/in-herald-writing-about-smoe-firings.html

It's probably too late now, and I know you didn't list this as one of your choices, but the public schools in Jeollanam-do are largely staffed by their local school board. The recruiter Canadian Connections handles most of the public school jobs there, so if for some reason there's no opening this fall, you might give that province a try.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07149708954524602455noreply@blogger.com
